Mrs. McCauley

I am a 6th grade ELA teacher at Middle School North. This is my 11th year teaching at North, all of which have been in 6th grade. I was a substitute teacher with the district for 5 years before being getting my own classroom. I graduated from Groveport Madison High School in 1980, then moved on to The Ohio State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1984. I spent several years with my own children before taking the leap to get back in to teaching in 2002. In 2012, I earned my Master of Education from Grand Canyon University. I live in the district and my children attended Groveport schools; my daughter graduated in 2007 and my son graduated in 2012. I have always loved Groveport and have very fond memories from both my childhood as well as the childhoods of my children.  

Why I Teach

I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was in first grade; I loved my first grade teacher and her impact affected my entire life.  I had several other wonderful teachers who left a lasting mark on my life as well—Mrs. Salyer (4th grade), Mr. Wood (7th grade), Miss Monceret (9th grade), Miss Starrett (10th grade), Mr. Kenworthy, (10th grade), and Mrs., Marburger (11th grade). I have always loved learning, but my passion is reading; I would spend all of my time reading if I could. When I realized that I could teach and pass on my love of reading to students, I was sold! There is nothing better than watching my students and see that love of reading bloom in their eyes!

Read - In

My students have participated several times in Read-Ins. This is a day where we spend an entire period in the Cruiser Lounge, reading. All of my students love this and keep asking me for more days like this. The reader in me loves this! One goal we have at North is to encourage a culture of reading and the Read-Ins fit the bill perfectly.

Fun Fact: 
When I was 12, the television show, “The Brady Bunch” was filming at Kings Island while I was there and I got autographs and pictures with Peter and Greg.
